Pressure, explained plainly.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy means breathing concentrated oxygen inside a chamber pressurized above normal atmospheric pressure. Here's what that means, and why the chamber matters.
What is HBOT?
At sea level you live at 1 atmosphere absolute (1 ATA). Inside a hyperbaric chamber, pressure is raised, and the oxygen you breathe is concentrated well above the ~21% in normal air.
Under pressure, your body can carry more oxygen dissolved in the blood plasma. That simple piece of physics is why hyperbaric medicine exists, and why the pressure a chamber can reach matters.
- 1.0 ATA
- Sea level. Normal life.
- 1.3 ATA
- Typical ceiling of soft, inflatable chambers.
- 2.0 ATA
- Roughly the pressure 33 ft underwater. Common in hard-shell clinical chambers.
Why the chamber matters.
"HBOT" can describe very different experiences. Before you book anywhere, ask what kind of chamber it is and what pressure it reaches.

What we won't say.
You'll find big promises about HBOT online. We don't make them.
The FDA has cleared hyperbaric oxygen for a specific list of medical conditions, treated under physician care. Peak Recovery offers HBOT for general wellness, does not diagnose or treat disease, and is not a substitute for your doctor. If you're managing a medical condition, talk with your physician first. We're happy to help you prepare the right questions.
